Defenders of the Realm - Battle for Britain Campaign

A message from John Gouriet (chairman)

FIGHTING FUND APPEAL

You will be aware that Tony Blair’s final act of betrayal of his country before handing over to Gordon Brown was to agree in principle to the terms of the revised EU Constitution at the EU summit on 21-22 June 2007, effectively committing Britain to permanent subordinate status. Mr. Blair claimed to have safeguarded British interests; he did not. According to leaders of other member states present in Brussels, the revised treaty is 99% the same, except in name, as the EU Constitution signed by Britain and seventeen other states, excluding France and the Netherlands. Moreover Mr. Blair has refused a referendum as being unnecessary although he reluctantly promised one in 2004 under pressure which included a petition to the Queen of over one million signatures submitted by Defenders of the Realm and This England magazine.

Mr. Brown is also likely to refuse and it is as well to remember that referendums ought not be binding under the British Constitution. They can be a useful indication of public opinion, but became a double-edged sword in the case of Scottish and Welsh devolution, both of which were achieved by minority results, and the 1975 EEC referendum. The question too may be framed to obtain the result that the Government wants, unless the referendum is completely independent. We therefore believe that the full facts should be made available to the public by an independent body and a completely impartial referendum is organised to determine public opinion on our relationship with the European Union.

However you may not be aware of what else can be done to help save our country. We have assembled enough evidence to seek judicial review and a declaration in the courts to determine the legitimacy of successive governments, especially the present one, for example to ‘deceive the Queen in Her Grant’, usurp Royal Prerogative, abuse Royal Assent and surrender sovereignty which is not theirs to give away – in a word TREASON.

In particular we shall seek to have Blair’s agreement to the new EU Constitution declared unlawful before it is passed by Parliament. We believe this is the best and perhaps last chance to restore our birthright of liberty. After our Nice Treaty case it was suggested at high level if we returned to court to defend the Constitution we might be successful. To pilot this vital case through to the Court of Appeal and House of Lords we need to raise at least £250,000 by September. I feel sure as a patriot you will agree that Britain is now in greater peril than at any time since 1940, not from bombs but systematic betrayal from within. If so you will welcome our efforts to restore our constitutional birthright, law-abiding government and safeguard our monarchy for which so many of our forebears gave their lives so we could remain free.

In their honour and on behalf of future generations I appeal to you now to give as generously as you can, for there can be no greater cause than the freedom of one’s country.
